Dog owners select dog names for a variety of reasons. It could be the color characterisctics or the personality of the dog. Maybe the dog has distinct features that help determine the dog name. Whatever name you select for your dog, try to follow these basic rules:
1. Don't select a name that rhymes with or is similar to a command such as 'Bo' that may be confused with 'no'.
2. Choose a short simple name. One or two syllables is best.
3. Dog names that may seem humorous to you in the privacy of your home, may prove to be embarrasing at the doggy park. Yelling 'butt sniffer' across your living room could cause problems at the vets office or with the neighborhood children. Yes - people actually do name their dogs this way.
4. Don't name your dog after one of your children or another relative. Naming your dog after your wife could be a serious mistake too!
5. If you have adopted a dog, keep the name it is familiar with.
